Best Teachers

This Friday, BBC One in the UK will be premiering Big School, a television comedy about teachers, starring David Walliams, Catherine Tate, and Philip Glenister. To celebrate, here are some great teachers in British film and television.

David Tennant

On Catherine Tate for Red Nose Day

On Doctor Who, Ten poses as a substitute physics teacher to investigate an alien invasion in the school.

As John Smith on Doctor Who when Ten wipes his memory and becomes human.

I’d like to include Jessica Hynes in this list because she is brilliant in this role, but I think technically she is the school nurse.

Dylan Moran

as David in Shaun of the dead.

He frequently has to remind people that he is a “lecturer.”

Simon Treves

as Rimmer’s dad and school teacher in the episode, The Beginning.

He uses his son as a guinea pig. Explains a lot about Rimmer’s personality.
