If you haven’t seen the half-hour special about Peter Davison, Colin Baker, and Sylvester McCoy trying to worm their way into the 50th Anniversary Special of Doctor Who, you can watch it for free on BBC.co.uk without an IP blocker. Hurray!
The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot addresses Stephen Moffatt’s struggle to keep every Doctor Who legend at bay as they all try to convince him to let them be in the anniversary special, which really only features Tennant, Smith, and a brief cameo by Tom Baker. Former Doctors Davison, C. Baker, and McCoy take it a step further than incessant phoning and lengthy voice messages. After convincing John Barrowman to give them a ride to Cardiff, they sneak into the studio, don their old costumes which are on display, and try to creep into the show. In fact, the episode-ette leaves you wondering if you did in fact see the three of them when you were watching The Day of the Doctor.
The Five(ish) Doctors Reboot is loaded with cameos, not just of Day of the Doctor stars Smith and Tennant, but also Paul McGann who originally shows interest and gets busy on another project, Russell T. Davis, John Barrowman as I mentioned, Peter Jackson and Ian McKellen who are working on Lord of the Rings which McCoy has abandoned in pursuit of the Anniversary Special, Nicholas Briggs and Frank Skinner as Dalek actors, and Sean Pertwee with Olivia Colman who thinks its weird she’s not been invited to be in the special under the simple premise that she’s “in everything.”
