Simon Pegg is not only known to anglophiles but also to big budget Hollywood films like Star Trek where he’s spent the last two films playing Scotty. Yesterday it was announced that Pegg, who co-wrote Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End, among others, will co-write the third Star Trek film with Doug Jung.
Why Americans Should Care: Because Star Trek is an American franchise, first started by Lucille Ball’s production company and now continued by J.J. Abrams. Personally, I was not a fan of the Star Trek reboot (although I’m not one to talk as I’ve never been a fan of the franchise) because it felt like every other movie that was coming out at that time (Transformers, anyone?). Pegg’s writing is bound to give the staleness of the big-budget action film a new flavor.
