Michael Smiley’s travel doc through Northern Ireland came out last year. It’s a beautifully filmed bike-based journey through the physical landscape of Irish cities as well as the memories of comedian and actor Michael Smiley. Episode 1 takes us to Belfast, his hometown Holywood where his first ever bike was a girl’s bike, Bangor where he saved his friend from drowning, and several other Northern Ireland cities. He stops and chats with a bike history expert, a bike mechanic, a photographer, and a bicycling tour group. It’s really quite a sweet show that gives you insight into the Northern Ireland of today and yesteryear, which largely lives on only through local knowledge. Plus, Michael Smiley scolding cows. So. Yes. Love it. Watch episode 1 here.
Teaser posts are reviews based on just the first episode.
